Abigail – Educating Children with Hearing Loss #NEG22

Meet Abigail, a teacher with the Canossian Early Intervention Programme for Infants and Children (EIPIC) and an Associate Psychologist since 2021.

Canossian EIPIC is the only early intervention programme that specialises in supporting children with hearing loss. As an early intervention teacher, Abigail works with young children with hearing loss aged 18 months to 6 years old. She takes time to set customised intentional goals for each child and empowers them to achieve their developmental milestones.

A child with behavioural issues came under her care in her first year in Canossian EIPIC. Joseph (not his real name) would throw tantrums whenever things did not go his way or if a change interrupted his normal routine. Abigail met with the child’s parents to develop strategies such as implementing calming down activities into his routine to help him be more aware of his emotions.

Being an educator for children with special needs has brought great meaning to Abigail’s journey as an educator. She feels so fulfilled whenever she sees an improvement, no matter how small, in the students she cares for.
