Canossaville Heartbeat – Vol 39

Present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God

– Romans 12:1

As the Lunar New Year and Lent approach, we are reminded to reflect on our values and priorities. This season, let us focus on cultivating a deeper spiritual journey through prayer, fasting, and almsgiving.

Prayer is our foundation. We need to set aside time for quiet reflection, scripture reading, and spending time in conversation with God. Let us incorporate traditional prayers like the Rosary or Stations of the Cross into our daily routine so that we remember the presence of God during the day.

Fasting helps us grow spiritually. Consider giving up a favourite food or activity and using the time to focus on spiritual nourishment and serving others. In today’s digital age, disconnecting from social media can be a powerful sacrifice.

Almsgiving is about recognising God’s blessings and sharing with those in need. Perhaps together with our family and loved ones, we may want to consider volunteering, donating to charities like Canossaville, or being more mindful of the poor and marginalised around us.

As St Paul says, “Present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God” (Romans 12:1). Let’s surrender our hearts to God’s will and become more loving servants and “look and do likewise” in the way of Jesus on the Cross, who gave His life for the love of God and humanity. Like the Great Exemplar, we can love and reach out to those who are less privileged.

This festive season, let us consider the less fortunate sisters and brothers and make sacrifices to give to those in need. Your generosity can make a difference in the lives of many.

I invite you to follow Canossaville Children and Community Services and be a part of what we do and partner with us to support those in need.
